Fork Brace
03 Jul 2009 09:48
I have been working on bobbing my KZ750. I am almost done, but got to wondering about something after seeing guys replacing the front fender with a fork brace. I removed my front fender all together and had no plans of putting it back on. Any reason why I should be worried about not having something to connect the fork tubes together as the fender did originally? Thanks!

yes the fender definately helps tie the lower fork legs together, some sort of brace couldnt hurt

First I'll give you my opinion about your question. I think the fender is there to do more than connect the forks together. The fender actually adds some stiffness to the lower fork legs. This improves handling in general and cornering especially. Therefore IMHO a fork brace would be a very good idea. (Maybe even with a fender on, these are 30 year old beasts.)

Are there any better fork brace designs than the older 3 piece ones? Wondering as I may need to do some frame and fork bracing soon.
