Battery fluid leaking was created by chrispysaki
I just did the wg coil mod, and I noticed that the chain guard, battery box and some other parts are getting caked with a white powdery gunk that looks to be coming from the battery.

I didn't notice this problem before doing the coil mod, but that doesn't necessarily mean it wasn't happening. One thing to note, when I did the mod, I connected the wire directly to the battery's positive terminal rather than the starter (which the instructions call for).

Can someone tell me what this white gunk is, if it's serious problem and how I can stop it?

Thanks,
Chris

You should have a battery vent/overflow tube connected to the battery vent orifice and routed down behind the engine to prevent any damage by an overcharged or overfilled battery. Ed

The white gunk is from the battery (acid). To stop it from trashing the bike you need to put the overflow tube on the battery and route it down and away from everything.

I have a tube from an old battery I'll put on the overflow/vent nozzle. Do I need to be worried about the fact that it's venting?

If the fluid level is between the high and low marks, I'd put a multimeter on the battery terminals when the bike is at idle and see what the voltage is. If it's 14 volts or more, your system may be over charging.

www.electrosport.com has a trouble shooting page that will walk you through this test.

Measure the batt voltage with the engine revved to about 3k. It should be about 14 - 14.5V. If higher, your reg is overcharging the battery and boiling it out.
