Yes Ted, I have recovered a KZ1000A1 seat with a Saddlemen cover. My feeling is that they run a little small. What this means is that you put them and the pan to be recovered in the sun and install when it is hot. The cover actually gets very pliable and a bit stretchy when warmed. In fact, it may take an extra set of hands to help you fit the cover... it did for me. When finally installed, my cover looks good and appears to be well made.

thats good to hear someone has tried them,it actually looked like a real nice cover, that is the same way you would do seats in a car also would be to let the material relax in the sun or a couple of heat lamps in garage, well thank you for that input.i am gonna wait till i get my stator and cover back on first to make sure the bike is gonna run out good, thanks

I used a Saddleman cover on my 650, it fit ok except for the front, where it seemed long by an inch or so. It has the drawstring too. I used the seats pointed clips to hold it on. I like the little extra padding it had sewn on the bottom. It's holding up fine and looks good. From what a few friends tell me I could have spent $100-$125 and got a local upholster guy to put a gel pad and recover the seat too. I spent about $65 plus shipping.

One thing I didn't do, and wish I did, would be to place a sheet of thin plastic over the foam first, then attach the seatcover.

I installed a Saddlemen seat cover on my 650-B1 in April of 2007. Got mine from our buddies at Z1 Ent. Don't know if they still carry them.

Went on OK. Looks good. Feels good. Still in good condition.

Best of success. :)

All, In the last 3 years I've purchaced 2 seat covers from Milwaukee Cycle. in both cases while they offered my exact cover, neither were in stock. However, apparently, they had the original patterns, and made both to order. While delivery took @ 6 weeks the quality of materials and workmanship were excellent, and to me the advantage of having a "new" cover made it worth the wait. communication was good, and they were up-front with why order would take time. the only discernable difference from stock I could ascertain was on my KZ550A1 cover, (The Gold "KAWASAKI" lettering at rear was absent) covers were @$80.00 ea, luck G

Just finished putting my saddlemen cover back on my Kz900-A4 stock seat pan with replacement foam from AmericanClassix.

I had to repair a tear that I made, but I learned a lot from this.

1.) Yes, the cover comes small - this appears to be by design.
2.) Heat is important. I used a heat gun on low and softened up the cover. This allowed it to be stretched as needed. Fingers are sore, though.
3.) If your seat pan is in good shape (mine was so-so) it does appear that the cover can be installed without the drawstring. (Much to my surprise after my last attempt)

Best of luck! The cover is vinyl, but the pattern is sewn into it and it seems to be nicely built. I'll probably get another one in the future since my rip is still somewhat noticeable after patching (I am an amateur after all).
