Fork Springs

I am rebuilding the front end of my 82 KZ1100 Spectre.
And didnt take a good look at witch way the springs went in.
The coils at one end are closer together then the other side.
And dose it matter witch way they go in the forks?
And what type of oil can I use for the forks?

Wagonmaster, Makers of aftermarket springs usually state it makes no differnce which way springs go in. I disagree, Rule of thumb (old school mechanical principal)is tight wind on coil springs goes to stationary end. again I differ. I install springs w/tight wind submerged. BECAUSE while slight, the denser concentration of spring coils will displace a greater amount of oil resulting in a higher fluid level w/same volume of oil. I rec. a quality fork oil as it's designded to task (resisting ariation)and in appropriate weights. period forks had no external adjustments, but a degree of tuning is possible by varying oil weight /volume/spring pre-load. hope these help.
