Non stock sprocket/chain replacement. Help was created by thetemples
I am pretty sure my rear wheel and swing arm are not stock. I want to replace both sprockets and chain. I do not know if its a 630 or 520 on it now, but really doesn't matter does it? I am going to go to 520 if I can find it all. Do you think I should take this sprocket off and take it to a Kaw dealer or do you have an idea if I can order a KZ sprocket and it will work?

I need to go take a better picture

The chain should have the numbers stamped into a side plate either 630 or 520.

Handsome bike! :cheer:

630 chain measures 3/4" between pin centers.

530 chain measures 5/8" between pin centers.

520 chain measures 5/8" between pin centers.

630 and 530 are same 3/8" width.

520 is 1/4" width (smallish imo for a KZ900).

Am guessing it's either 630 or 530.

Would get chain and sprockets from Z1E. Has everything needed, plus excellent advice, very reasonable pricing, and best service on the planet. ;)

Possibly consider making a xerox copy of the rear sprocket which could be faxed to Z1E.

Good Luck! :)

"Handsome bike!"... No doubt, beautiful!

Most probably a 630, possibly a 530 but seems old setup configuration via imaging, hard to say.

Question, why 520?
I ask this for there are numerous posting & debates about this so what are you truly going to gain...

At least in a 530 setup, tensile strengths in new technologies I get but 520....

Chain & rear sprocket assortment of colors I get but on that purdy ass black bike only a few colors would match the theme anyways...

Just don't forget the math for gearing desires...
630 tooth count example... Stock 15 tooth cc sprocket.
15 / 5 x 6 = 18 tooth in 530 or 520.
Same for the rear math...

If needed, follow the link to JTSprockets for rear sprocket conversion template (bolt pattern) matches....
www.jtsprockets.com/52.0.html?&L=0

Finding a 520 output shaft spline match will be difficult so if you find a source, please share with others...

Ok, I'll shut up now....

I meant to say 530. I am a life long dirt bike rider, so 520 just came out of my fingers on accident.

I am going to measure it thanks to your fine peoples information and see whats on it.

I suspect its a 630. I may stay with 630, I just want a black or natural color chain, nothing fancy on this bike... I think a color would look stupid/cheap.

If I get good pics of the sprocket, do you think you could tell if a stock sprocket would fit? Any ideas on how to proceed with the sprocket?

Follow the link to Z1 if 630 configurations....

www.z1enterprises.com/catalog.aspx?pid=KZ900-A4-1976-MP0

Stock KZ900 gearing is 15/35 for the sprockets.
OEM Chain is 92 link but with that swing arm, unknown extension.... Count the number of links you presently have...

Patton has already provided you the Pitch & width measurements you can make to confirm which size is presently installed...
