Chain and sprocket replacement was created by fredgarvin42
My scoot has worn out the chain and I'd like to replace it along with the f/r sprockets. I see where I can get them but I don't know what the factory gearing is (at work now so I can't count the teeth) and I'm trying to get the parts ordered while I have the opportunity.

Anyone know what the original gearing is for a 1980 LTD 1000 is? Also, where should I order from? Z1? Sprocket Specialties (expensive!) Installation dooz and don'tz?

Thanks!

I'd go with Z1 Enterprises. He's a great guy to deal with and goes beyond strictly business to help where he can by offering advice, etc. to whoever he can help here. His prices are just as good and generally better thne most places I have found adn we need to support that kind of support. I believe the gearing for the 1980 LTD is 15T front and 33T rear. By all means get a new chain when you get those sprockets also.

1980 LTD (changed over the years), 1979 LTD (being rebuilt), 1977 KZ turbo and various KZ's in various states of build. KLX110

Be sure and get the front sprocket with the hole in it for the lockwasher. If it doesn't have the hole, refuse to use it. I think we had some talk a while ago about Z1 ent sprockets do not have the hole, so ask before buying. Dennis Kirk sells Sunstar sprockets that are real nice with the correct hole. Running without the lockwasher will result in the nut coming off and your sprocket sliding off the splines, then you have no gears or worse. Sure you can use Loctite on the threads, but better off with the correct parts.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

You can also get the kind of lock washer that doesn't need the hole: it is the kind you bend over onto the flat of the drive axle nut to keep it in place. They hold a lot tighter than the ones with the little tang that sticks into a hole.
