Do slotted or drilled rotors have the same squealing problems that the solid rotors do? I have tried just about everything. The guys I ride with are starting to get pissed at the sound.

Have you tried cleaning the brake pad? sometimes grit gets trapped between the pad and the brake disc. A random orbit sander lightly abrading the pad should clean it. Another thing to try is to get some "Disc Brake Quiet" from the auto parts store.

It's a spray on or tubed compound you apply to the back side of the brake pad reducing the vibration during braking.
My understanding is the brake pad makes the rotor act like a violin string when the bow is moved across it.

I have roughed up the disc and the pads and tried the disc brake quiet and the copper silicone and everything else I can think of. As far as the violin effect, I was wondering if the drilled rotors would not squeal because they are not solid

One thing that works is to drill the pad face and install some graphite rods (like a pencil lead) and that lowers the coefficient of friction so the pad doesn't start "grabbing" until it is squeezed tighter on the disc. That worked on mine... for a while, then it came back.

I doubt if drilling the rotor would help because the noise comes from the pad vibrating against the rotor face.

try taking the caliper off and painting the inside surfaces of where the pad fits into the caliper. Try to make it a tight fit. That might keep the pad from vibrating.

Mat, Brake squeel is /was a common prob w.era bikes. in most cases, sound is/was caused by pads vibrating in caliper., check the area where pad locators ride.smooth if necc, If flex plates were fitted, examine. and if fitted still squeels. reverse direction. sometimes the easiest fixes are best.luck g

I agree with Plummen - different pads (Genuine Kaw if you can find them.) You may also try chamfering the leading & trailing edge of the old pads a little. This can help sometimes. Also, wipe down the rotors before you ride, this should give a little relief until they dust up again. Ed

My old rotors squealed and I would just play a little tune with the front and rear brakes.

Try the cheaper pads from Z1ent.
I had the same problem. The pads I was using had too much metal in them and no matter what i did, they would squeal...put in the cheaper pads and problem solved.
