I need some help with the year of this KZ I picked up yesterday for a couple hundred dollars with a compete new kerker exhaust. It had either been salvaged or retitled in 1988 because the title states 1988 custom mc and the new VIN was stamped over the old. I have a few pictures I took and the engine number is kzt00ae054295

Here's the original larger sizes

I'm thinking 77 KZ1000 but could be wrong. What is embossed on the lower part of the jugs. That would tell you 900 or 1000 cc.

The motor says 1978 KZ1000A2...the front forks also say 1978 (trailing disk brake). :)

$200, all it appears to need is a set of carbs....but you know how that goes....good compression on all 4 cylinders which is a plus, wiring harness is unhacked and original. Engine is casted with 1015 so it's a 1000cc. Messing will my other KZ has given me alot of experience with the older KZ's and there simplicity, I may take the set of carbs off my old bike just to see if this one runs while I'm still working on my project. Would make a good daily driver anyways, my older 83 virago just isn't my kind of bike even though it's great for the 100 mile round trip to work everyday.

Nice score...you should be able to pick up a set of 26mm's off eBay for a reasonable price.
