Looking for a 1981 Kz1000-k seat
06 Jun 2009 02:30
Hi, this is my first post but I've been browsing this forum for about a year. I bought this bike last spring and the previous owner must have had a battery explode because the bottom of the seat pan is rusted through. The cover and foam seem to be ok. I've checked ebay for the last month or so but haven't found anything yet. I was able to find it new OEM in a few places but I don't want to spend 350.00-400.00 for a seat. It looks like the only years this seat was made/used was '81 and '82. I'm coming to the conclusion I need to make my own seat pan...probably from fiberglass but I dont' have any experience working with it yet. If anyone knows of any other option, I'd appreciate it a lot. Also, does anyone know if the seat pan was used on any other model? Thanks (I'll post some pics of my bike soon)

Looking at pics of both seats side by side, I'd say it probably won't. Thanks for replying though.

Unless you fabricate your own pan (and I have no experience with that) or modify the attachment points on the frame, the only drop on pans for your bike are the 1981/2 KZ1000K1/2 and KZ1000M1/2 pans. They actually do appear infrequently on eBay...

I also have a re-covered seat and pan from an 81 CSR 1000 pretty decent shape, let me know if you're interested.

kzmarvo: Looks good. Did the seat need to be modified to fit on the z900? Also, check your pm's.
Grantl: check your pms too.
Thanks everyone. Glad a place like this exists.
