Wheel Replacement - Help! was created by Norseman
I am really in need of help here, folks. I'm finally getting my 1981 KZ1000 M1 CSR back together after a very long time, and trying to resolve my wheel issue. The CSR of course came with spoked wheels, 19" front and 16" rear. The spokes are pretty much shot, very corroded, and a few are actually bent. The rims are actually spotless, though.

So, I have done my homework and in order to re-lace with new spokes, I would have to spend roughly $206 on both front and rear sets from Buchanan, and another $110 to have a shop relace, true and balance ($55 per wheel). That's the best I can do.

Here's my quandry: I actually prefer cast wheels, which I could probably get used for a lot less. But I don't have a clue what to look for, other than 1981 and up police bikes. I THINK those would fit? If that's true, what happens when I change to the 18" front and rear?

If anyone has any insight, suggestions or experience with this specific model, I would so appreciate some help with this!!!

81 and 82 LTD have the cast mags and should fit your bike.

Thanks, Tom. So do I understand that my search is limited to 81 & 82 LTD's and police bikes 1981 and up?

Also, what happens with the Tach gear/cable, and tachometer as the CSR has the mechanical type?

Anyone else have any suggestions?:S

Thinking along the same lines that the LTD model cast wheels might possibly fit the CSR, just because the two models are so similar.

kawasaki.com shows LTD wheels common to the following models (but not expected to cover whether they would fit the CSR or vice versa).

These are the LTD rear cast wheels:

KZ1000-K1 (LTD) (1981)
KZ1000-K2 (LTD) (1982)

And these are the front cast wheels of 7 models common to the LTD.

KZ1000-J1 (1981)
KZ1000-J2 (1982)
KZ1000-K1 (LTD) (1981)
KZ1000-K2 (LTD) (1982)
KZ1100-A1 (Shaft) (1981)
KZ1100-A2 (Shaft) (1982)
KZ1100-B1 (GPz) (1981)

Just thoughts. Await better more specific advice of course.

Good Luck! :)

Wow, am I embarrassed or what:blush:

Had a brain cloud there, I guess! Of course, I meant the speedometer. Jeez.

Thanks for the polite nudge, Tom.
