personaly i have used spitfires ,michelin macadam's,metzler me 77's, dunlops i have used pretty much all the big name tires i have been thinking about putting a set of avon's as well myself. about the only that won't ever be on one of my bikes will be kenda's or chin chengs or someof the other junk tires that are coming out of china or tiawan, enough things can go bad when your riding why force the issue with cheapas tire's that don't work as well as some of the big name tires.

using Metzler's Lazer Tecs on front and rear, good enough to drag hard parts on the track.

I currently have Dunlop GT501's mounted on my 74 Z1 900. I have mag wheels on it off of a 1979 ltd 1000, 110/90-19 up front, and 130/90-16 in the rear. I have only had the bike out twice but they seem to be a good tire. But only time will tell i guess.

I gotta agree with you there about the Chinese tires. A couple of years back we put a set of Motomaster (Canadian Tire) brand on the wifes car and 20,000 km later when there was a wobble in the steering the local Midas shop put the car up, spun the wheels and called to say the threads were separating !!! Word has it Canadian Tire shipped the molds to China to get the tires made cheap. That was an expensive mistake. Cost about $600 to replace those crappy things. Never again will I put Chinese tires on or either car or bike.

I'm going with Bridgestone Battlax this year. If I ever get the bike going I'll post up how they are.

Hey Don... Did you have a chance this year to try the Bridgestones? Need some new tires and I'm interested in a dual compound bias this round.

The most important thing about tires is the age. A tire will go bad just by sitting. Every compound is a bit different and they all have a different shelf life. If you are riding a cruiser and do just that it makes not much difference but if you ride with any kind of spirit, be very careful. Five to seven years is about maximum on shelf life. Ten years could be a death sentence on a sport bike. Many tires use the pattern to increase the grip and not the compound. This can drastically shorten the millage life of a tire. Dunlop, Continental and Michelin are notorious about this. That might be the wrong word, but if millage AND grip are BOTH a factor for you, do some research. This is one reason I switched to Avon. Even they have some patterns that are not so good.
