Rear Suspension was created by Hounddog09er
Alright I just got my 82 kz1100 spectre up and running again after about a year. i have always know that my rear suspension wasn't holding air very well but i was abruptly reminded of this fact when i went for a ride with my girl friend on the back today. so my question is... is it possible to rebuild my stock rear shocks or is there something aftermarket that would fit the bill. working on a kinda tight budget so trying to find the most inexpensive way to save my spine. i can post some pics if anyone thinks it would be helpful.

thanks for any ideas you guys might have.

hey bro,

i dont know about rear air shocks cept to say they are not used a lot on your basic older kz's and i remember being told to not bother going that route early on yrs back....so hence my lack of air shock knowledge......i think you just need a good set of spring shocks.....any of the other folks could probably steer you towards a cheaper link to some good stout new shocks....i got lucky and got some great used koni street shocks last year off e-bay and did not pay more than 150.....they are awsome.....hey you also need to know how long your shocks are to shop around......others will chime in i'm sure.....good luck craig

An option for you is to check ebay for a pair of "The Motor Companies" Sportster shocks. You can sometimes find new "take off" shocks for under $40.00. Because the bikes they come off or so heavy they are usually pretty beefy shocks and work well for two-up riding. If you are looking for uber-adjustability then they won't meet your needs. The biggest hassle will be needing to replace the bushings in the eyelets on the shocks. I'm not sure about an 1100 but most of the KZ's seem to have shocks that are roughly 13.5" center of eyelet to center of eyelet.
