Great write up OnkelB. Sorry I hadn't had a chance to reply as I was out of town.
The rear brake calipers on the 1983 KZ750 are a little different as yours but you gave me an idea by seeing the pics.
The pics I took are too big to post. Anyway I set the dust seal on the opposite side of the piston. Then set it on the caliper groove. Gently slid the piston down on the caliper while sliding the dust seal up on the piston. When it no longer wanted to move by hand I pressed it with a c-clamp till seated.
Thats all it took and the rear brakes are working fine.
