Steering Stem Seal removal ???????

I am restoring a 77 kz1000 LTD for a friend, I was getting ready to prep the bottom triple tree for painting, when I noticed the rubber seal at bottom of steering stem was slightly torn, how do I replace this seal,pressed, threaded

i dont have this model bike, so i dont know if its like mine when i replaced the bearings and seals on my neck. but, if youre restoring it, im sure someones already uttered these words, get a factory shop manual. that is if you can still get one for a 77. but if youre restoring, i think youre going to need something close to this, even a clymer.
1982 Kawasaki KZ 750LTD. i wanted the big boy 1000, but there's like a billion of these 750 ltds running around. so what the hey!

put some tapered bearings on there and forget that seal!

Junk the seal and go with the tapered bearings like PLUMMEN said. You will have to cut off the race but it's worth it.

To answer the question, just pull out the old & put in a new - it'll slip right in. But, like they said, get the tapered bearings - they should improve the handling of the bike.
