Sissy Bar Or Not? was created by Russ Jackson
Ok so my 14 year old son wants to ride on the back of the Bike but he doesn't want to play the hold on to Dad Game. Plus he has helped bringing this old horse back to life. So I tracked down a vintage NOS Sissy Bar. No pad yet and I think I will keep it that way. What do you think? Leave it on or not? Pad or no Pad?...Russ

I have a sissy bar and i am not going to install it.

I was riding on the back of my dad 40 yrs ago and we never had a sissy bar. If he needs a sissy bar, he is just that. Tell him he's too young.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

He isn't a sissy. Hell he is 5'11". I think its just the age of holding on to his old man and not knowing where to put his hands...LMAO

Guess I will go back to the grab bar.
I remember when Sissy Bars were cool....Russ

tell him to grab on around pops belly and hang on,no time for being macho its a safety issue you dont want to be worried about if hes hanging on while your in the middle of an emergency! :S that being said i dont have passenger pegs on any of my bikes B)

Still recovering, some days are better than others.

go with the pad if he helped build it it's only right that he be allowed to enjoy it as well and i don't having those bar stuck in the middle your back would be much fun. besides if he is 5'11" at 14 in a few short years he may be the one giving you the ride when your old and feeble so remember the golden rule. besides in a couple of years when he has his own bike you can take the sissy bar off.

Another option could be one of the several versions of special purpose belts available which the operator wears and which provide handles, loops, straps or grips for the motorcycle passenger to hold onto while riding.

Good Luck! :)

I had one for my 650 years ago. I felt better having it so my wife would be more secure. When I rode by myself it was a five minute job to remove it. ;)
