In need of fork ID. Z1/KZ900/1000?
19 Apr 2009 14:49
I'm about to pull the ZX11C front end off my Z1A project bike and replace it with a somewhat-correct front end.
Several months ago I bought a set of forks/trees off what I think was a KZ900.
I have searched through several online parts diagrams but can't seem to positively identify just exactly what I have.
Btw, both sets of forks I have are 36mm.
Here is a pic of the set in question:
I also have a couple different triple trees; and I DO have the original Z1A fork lowers but they are in awful shape.
Fwiw, I want to use dual discs up front. Below is a pic of the wheel I have.
Any and all help is appreciated mucho!

thats a set of kz 76-80 triple trees ,z1s used lugs with threaded studs to mount gauges.the wheel is also 76-78 kz im gonna guess since it has 4 bolt holes for rotors instead of 6 like z1/h1/h2 B)are those airfork caps of some kind on the top of fork tubes? :S
Still recovering, some days are better than others.

It almost looks like someone lost the original caps and found some huge bolts with the same thread pitch to put back in. If you replace those, you'll take 50lbs off your front end.

I should have included this pic in my original post.
As you can see the threads on the larger cap are much coarser than the ones on the cap(s) I bought from Z1E.
The larger cap does NOT or never has had air holes or anything.
Have the KZ gurus been stumped by an old gray-haired guy from Texas?????:woohoo:

you haven't stumped anybody yet can you show us the whole fork assembly in stead of just the caps it might help jog somebody's memories. also can you measure the lenth of the tubes from the top to the center of the axle because i have an idea.

The uncompressed measurement from the top of the tube to the center of the axle is 29 3/4 inches.

The lowers look like 76 to 80 KZ. Maybe someone put different tubes in the lowers.
