What fits what? was created by kimsmith4807
Sorry if this post is in the wrong place but thought it was a good place to start. Is there a good source or list of what KZ frames will work with what KZ engines, pretty much any part that is interchangeable with another part from another year. Specifically, somewhere between 1978ish to 1982ish KZ's. Thanks.

I'm between bikes right now. Sold my V-Max a few years ago and didn't like the the styling of any of the new bikes. So, I went back to my roots, when I was younger and what I had then. I never had the big KZ's back when I was younger. Started out with a CSR-305, had a GPZ-750 and slowly gravitated away from them and into all the aluminum framed, plastic faired machines. Anyways, I'm getting a little off track. I figure my next bike will be my last. I've always wanted a KZ1000 and to enjoy it thoroughly I thought building one would only add to the experience. So, to answer timebomb33's ?, I don't have one or anything to even start the project. Plummen, I'm not sure what you mean by "how many hours" unless you mean hours into the project.
If I'm looking at buying a frame and later find an engine, it would be great to know if a 1980 KZ1000(insert model # here) and a 1979 frame will fit together. Or do I need to keep everything matched. Thanks for the response and Thanks for the Welcome!!

I hope you have deep pockets. That will be very expensive building a bike that way. If you were to look for a complete bike that needs a little lovin chances are you will have to take it down to the frame anyway, replacing and cleaning parts as you go. That would not be as costly. By the time you do all that and add the mods that fit you, it will be like you "BUILT" it anyway. Good Luck and keep us posted on your progress.

73-78 900 and 1000 motors will fit into any 73-78 900 and 1000 frames. Most 79 and 80 ltd 1000 motors will also fit in the 73-78 A model frames. I think they changed the mounts in the 79-80 A and MK11 models.

I think kawickrice said it best. I actually sat down the other night and added up what I might spend on building this thing. I was amazed at how much it would have cost. And you're right, for the money it would cost to build it this way, I could have found a running machine in pretty good shape for half as much. So, I've shifted gears and will start looking for something that is mostly whole and make it my own. The things that I'm most particular about are; tank style, seat style, handle-bar style and the sound. And all of these items should be easier to adapt to a different model bike than trying to match up frames to engines. Thanks for wake-up call guys.
