KZ550 Tire Recommendations

'81 KZ550, stock. Used for street riding, not track. Looking for a bit more modern tires for better handling and braking. Not particularly concerned with having tires that "look" vintage.

I'm running a set of Dunlop D-404's on my 81 550LTD. It's mostly a commuter so it's not ridden hard at all. Some on here hate them, I've had no bad experiences with them so far and they seem to be wearing very well.

There are Metzler Lazertec, Avon Roadrider, Contintal TKH23 and 24 Contiblitz and a new Continental ContiGo that looks like a nice tire. Probably more too, but few in inch sizing. Metric sizes are not acceptable with me. I'd go stock 3.25-19 on the front and a 4.00-18 rear which would give you a little more tire than the stock 3.75-18

What KZ550 do you have?

On my 81 gpz, I use Dunlop GT501's and love them for traction. They don't last as long as some of the harder compound tires out there.

It's just the basic KZ550 as far as I can tell. I have a '81 GPz550 myself.
