So my older bike started making a knocking noise so I took it in to the bike shop and after tearing it apart he tells me the crankshaft would have to be replaced. Yuck. Anyway, that would be way more than the bike is worth, I now have a 82 440 kz chassis sitting in a box..

Has anyone had to scrap a bike? What were your options, I suppose I could part it out, but what should I do with the rest of it?

If anyone around chicago would like it for parts, let me know soon, you can have it if you can pick it up.

You could probably find another motor for less than the crankshaft.

What, specifically, is wrong with your crank?
1980 KZ750-H1 (slightly altered)
1987 KZ1000-P6 "Ponch"
1979 GS1000 "Dadzuki"

Hmmm,
I live in chicago myself. I think I would try and part it out. Motor, front end, frame etc. Big parts not piece by piece. Im not sure if any salvage yards take old bikes. Try looking on the south side of the city, or in the south suburbs. If not, and you cant get rid of it..... the city of chicago garbage men take anything I ever put in the alley or in the cans.........
