23 Mar 2009 08:20
hello everyone just got a say awesome sight and info thanks for that...I need a little help with my 75 z1
I have purchased the gs 1100 swingarm and would like to go with around a 170, 17" tire is there a rear end that is preferably the easiest to go with eg, gs or zx and what should I need besides tire and rim for complete assembly.
Any tips would be great.

thanks Doug that tire looks killer, I guess there are a few other things I should consider. Now would zx tire and rim be a similar application or should I stick with the gsxr conversion?I really dont know if I need a 180 tire but a 160 or 170 would beef her up a bit too.

Does this tire/spacer change affect the angle of your chain? were any adjustments made with in this area?

Not sure about this but due to the wider rim/tire you may be requiring an offset counter sprocket as well...

Yeah, an offset front sprocket is needed. Sometimes you can get away with a 3/8" offset or other times you'll need either a 1/2" or 5/8" offset front sprocket.
If you use a 160 or 170 you can go with a 4.5" rim in which case just about any Katana 600/750 can donate. I have a 160 tire on the back of my 1000 and it looks like it's proportional.

right now I have the stock 16" .Sounds like I will look for a 4.5 rim. Once tire is on then I will measure for offset sprocket correct? I suppose I would have to use the axle from the tire and rim that I use. What did you use for the front?( matching katana tire)

Use the axle from the swingarm as that's what the chain adjusters are designed for. Adapt the rim to the axle using different bearings if necessary. If you want a 17" front rim then you'll either have to find a Kz1000C police front end and adapt the new rim to that or the other way would be grab the whole front end from the donor bike.

I'm in the middle of this swap right now. the rear axle you need is a 20mm one. You will need to get it from a gs1100e. Don't forget the e when descibing the model. The gs1100 or gs1000 models have a smaller axle.
