HI I have a kz900 frame with a gs1100 swingarm I am going to use a 17 x 5 excel rim, I just ordered from Buchanan. What I need to know is , I have a choice between using a 160/60/17 or a 170/60/17 will either clear my chain without using an offset counter sprocket and shimming over the rear sprocket? I am trying to avoid doing this.If I do have to do this I will. But I want to keep this to a bare minimum, I would want to clear the frame with a little room to spare. I would like to know if 1/2" or less offset would work with either of these tires, or any is spacing is needed? I am running a 77-78 stock disc brake hub with a 530 x ring chain the same width as a 630 chain, 1" wide total. Also I plan to use metzeler z6 sportec radial tires on my new wheels. Is there any problems with running these on an old kz, other than having to run tubes or seal the rims? What about handling? Will a 110/80/18 tire clear my stock forks and a ltd fender? I need opinions because I havent ordered the tires yet. Any help would be great!! Thanks ZTORCH - (BOB)

For cc sprocket chain to frame clearance, no larger than 1/2" cc sprocket offset or you will have issues with the frame.... i.e. 5/8ths offset, equates to Oops!

In my project, the cc sprocket is 12.5mm and I only have ~ 1/8th of an inch clearance to the frame and am using a 630 chain... Pretty tight, have my concerns with chain swaying so will have to keep a close eye on chain slack...

On the tire side, I have an 180 with no problems, plenty of clearance ~ 1/2" plus on a stock tire...

May be different with Michelin Pilots I have planned but should still have more than enough room....

As for the front, just yesterday I put my 110-90-18 tire in the forks without the rim and it didn't fit. It was way too wide and wasn't even close. I'm going to be using a plastic front fender when I get my rim done and I'll use some smaller head allen bolts to try a 100-90-18 tire. On the back I'm using a 140-70-18 on a 5.5 Akront rim. I got it cheap but next year I'm going with a 170.
