Wheel spacers...steel-braided lines...

When you guys mount those wide rims, where do you get your wheel spacers? Or what do you use for spacers? Couple guys around here I've talked to who are racers and build bikes are claiming it will cost around $200 to mill some and that is insane. Anybody here able to make some or point me in the right direction to someone who does?

Cut down stock spacers? I thought about doing just that but I'm not to that point yet but trying to look ahead. The prices from that guy sure sounds more reasonable. I know J&P sells some but not sure of the size. Local racer says axles are usually either 3/4" or 20mm. Not sure how much difference between the two though. How much clearance canyou get away with on spacers? Ex. can you use a 1" i.d. spacer for a 3/4" axle? Beings it's just a spacer, does it matter that much?

While we are at it...where is a good place to get steel-braided lines made? Talking brake lines mostly. Any companies make them to size or would you have to buy whatever is close and make them work?

you would be surprised what you can get away with tolerances on spacers lol i have a triple tree nut as a space on my rear wheel been on there 15 yrs.

brake lines is where i am at right know,
i would like to cut them my self rather than measuring.
not sure if you can build your own lines but i used to back in the uk.

Dennis Kirk has the Russell lines you can put together yourself. Just measure and look up the parts. They sell the lines and screw on fittings. I used a set on my 78 and they worked out great. As for spacers, I was thinking about buying one of those cheapy lathes from Harbor Freight and start making them. The lathe is cheap and probably not good for anything heavy duty but would work for spacers. Just buy a 2 inch solid bar and a good set of micrometers and go to town.

What size spacer do u need. i bought an extra for my zrx axle and had it milled down.
U can find the proper I.D. spacer for your axle, on bike bandit .com and have it altered to fit. pm me if u need info. I also have spare braided lines.B)

Not sure what sizes I will need yet. Getting ready to tear into it in a few days. Have a couple bikes I will need them for but I will remember the offers when I get that far. Appreciate the help. Sort of starting from scratch on one of them so it might be a while for that one. I know I'll need them for the front and rear axles though. Depends on which wheels I use.

For light weight spacers some 6061-T6 or 7075 Aluminum will work. 1018 steel is strong but is heavier than the others. For a selection of material go to www.onlinemetals.com

$ 200? Sorry, but those guys need to put the pipe down - when I put a Zephyr 750 swingarm in my 650 my local friendly machine shop made me a 17 mm pivot bolt, a rear axle and three rear wheel spacers (one left, one right and one between hub and sprocket hub) all in stainless to the tune of $ 75. Yeah, I'm in Europe but still.

A wheel spacer is nothing but a piece of pipe meant to keep the wheel positioned sideways, anyone who knows how to operate a lathe should be able to make you a set in 15 minutes or less.
