New kz owner

I just recently bought a 1979 kz400b. Never owned one before and trying to somewhat restore it, I am looking for the "yoke or gasket" not for sure what it is called to be honest!! It is where the tree goes into the forks?? I know I may sound crazy, but my handlebars are loose under the tree. This is a project for me so I am trying to learn the parts and know what to look for! If anyone can help me out greatly appreciated!

Welcome.

I'm thinking the part you are looking for may be in this pic. Item 9??

Your handle bars are rubber mounted. Maybe the rubber pieces are gone or worn out.

I have 2 suggestion to get you started. You need to buy a Kawasaki factory service manual (not Clymers and such) for your specific model. They are worth their weight in gold. They're generally available on eBay. Second, take a look at the site below and click on "click here." It will take you to parts diagrams for your bike and help you identify the names and part numbers of the various bits and pieces on your bike. It will even tell you if the parts are still available (active). Good luck and welcome aboard. Ed

Take a look at the link I sent. When you get there, click on "Handlebars." On the diagram you'll see part number 20 (the bike uses 4 of these.) Look in the list below the diagram and click on the part number (92075-039). You'll see a window pop up that shows these are called "DAMPER RUBBER HANDLE" and that they're still active. Active means you can order them from the dealer or you may find Z1Enterprises or another parts place specializing in KZ's has them. The dealer should charge a little over $2 each (you need 4). Ed
