i bought a master cylinder off ebay. its all flaky like aluminum gets when it oxidizes and im wondering if its still useable or if i need to get a new one because its been exposed to moisture on the inside.

1982 Kawasaki KZ 750LTD. i wanted the big boy 1000, but there's like a billion of these 750 ltds running around. so what the hey!

If the bore is not too pitted, could likely be restored to serviceable condition. May or may not require new cup(s), piston, and/or other parts. Is it an oem part? What bike and model is it from? Is it intended for the 1982 Kawasaki KZ 750LTD shown in signature?

Good Luck! :)

yes its intended for the bike in the signature and it is also from a kz 750 ltd. so the bore is the only thing i have to look at to see if its still useable? it is oem.

yes, ive got the assembly part number memorized - 43015-1046 - and i see the kz 1000 of the era has a matching MC part number as well. ive been scouring ebay and have found a few questionable pieces that would work, though in rough condition. ill check the bore on it later today, if the bore is in decent condition do i need to worry about the white aluminum flakes or do i just toss my brake fluid in there?

When working with the m/c disassembled on the workbench, I enjoy using a bottle of common household rubbing alcohol as a cleaning agent, with hand-squeeze spray attachment. Blow dries without undesireable oily residue.

Compressed air is also handy, and of course reassemble with interior parts doused in clean new brake fluid.

If any part needs replacing, it's likely the piston assembly (comes with rubber cups already fitted) available at Z1E Piston Assembly which I believe corresponds with the diagram part number 43020.

Good Luck! :)
