My 84 GPZ 900 had a 16 front and an 18 rear it handeled well but looked funny . My cop bike has a 18 front but it has a big ole tire to hold all that weight the cop bike weighs a ton..

If you are building a bobber style bike, a 16" would look better on the front. You will need to change the rake some and also run a wide 16" to get enough footprint for the front tire to maintain traction in the twisties.
I've modified my 1000 by konging the frame and lowering it. Still running 18 front and 16 rear.
