1983 KZ1100 LTD Luggage Rack/Soft Bags

Hey Guys,

I just picked up a 1983 KZ1100 LTD and am brand new to this forum...I'm looking for a way to carry some stuff...a small luggage rack or perhaps some soft saddle bags...any ideas?

Not sure where to get those items, but I have some questions for you?

Is yours shaft drive?
If it is, is there any chance you could measure a couple things for me?

Length of swing arm from axle centerline to frame pivot centerline

and if possible, the width of the arm where it bolts to the frame.

What size tire do you have in the back?

Yes it is a shaft drive.

I took the measurements you asked for...please keep in mind these are ballpark measurements taken with a yardstick...clearly not accurate enough for having anything fabricated or something like that...if you need more accurate, let me know and I can try to get 'em for you.

Swingarm length: 19 3/4"
Swingarm pivot width: 11 1/4"
Rear tire: Dunlop Qualifier 130/90-16 67H

Kawasaki offered some Vetter equipped touring models including fairing, lowers, saddlebags, luggage rack, tail box, etc., which I believe were on KZ1100 shafties, but may be adaptable to your model. Might require some bracket fabrication.



These items frequently appear on eBay. There's a tailbox on eBay right now, but it's a dog and with no rack. Would keep an eye out for some much nicer pieces.

Lots of quality over-the-seat soft bags and duffles of all sizes and shapes are available direct as accessory items from various after market sources. Also on eBay.
