I changed mine because whoever last worked on the bike severely overtightened the headset and the balls put dimples into the races. When you turned the handlebars you could feel the dimples

Hi Ron,

I broke down and bought that Honda special tool after I found that on my Valk the lover bearing cup sets in a recess that stops you from getting a straight shot at the top edge. I even heated up a screwdriver to bend it similar to a pry bar but all it did when I hit it was vibrate. Once I expanded that tool to grip both sides of the cup I was able to drive the whole thing out easily with a brass drift.
