all this talk of tires and price and good tire for this... good tire for that...life and wear out time.....
This outta get some opinions...
anyone got a bike and it had cheng shin tires from the P.O mounted...i have...
Anyone ever need a tire and had a cheng shin lying around and tossed it on as a better than the bald one option....i have...
anyone ever bought a cheng shin for 40-50 bucks or less and ran it in a pinch...i have...
anyone ever hualed ass on a cheng shin?? i have..
they wore out fast under spirited driving ...are a knock off tread copy of an avon venom or irc duro tour...but if a tire wears out kinda soon does not that mean it is gripping the tarmac...
i was impressed with the [performance and handling of a tire costing 1/4 -1/3 what a "good" tire costs.
anyone have any experiences here?????????/

I hear alot of bad talk about the chen shin's. $40 a tire sounds like you are getting junk. I have run junk i mean Chen Shin Barracuda's on both my kawi's. Only have a front chen shin on the 810 since the gixxer rear end. Yes I have hauled ass on a chen shin. Yes i have gone through the twisties at a way more than recommended speed, and yes i have put many many miles on a chen shin. From what i see it has been a great tire for me, regardless of everyone elses thoughts. I rode my 750 4 to sturgis and back this year after i mounted up a set of chen shin's. Rode excellently the whole way out there. The way back we were meeted with rain and thunderstorms. Rain was coming down very hard yet we kept shoving on in hope of reaching atleast close to home. These tires did excellent in the rain and never gave me any problems.

I don't think i have used them on the road but i have bought some Cheng Shin knobs for the dirt. They didn't last as long as the Dunlop's or Bridgestone's but they worked pretty good!

My front tire on my "cop-cycle" is a Cheng Shin. It came with the wheel I won on "flee-bay". I do not have a single complaint about it. It grips fine in wet or dry and price-wise, it's a good deal.

Just my thoughts!

Cheng Shen tires vary a lot in terms of the rubber compound. The Barracuda series wears quickly and the Barracuda V series even quicker. The Hi-Max lasts a long time. The Marquis doesn't wear well and isn't all that sticky. When you talk about tires, you need to talk about which tire and not about a manufacturers... for instance, there IS a difference between tires made by every manufacturer.

I have run the Hi Max on my 650 for 4 years now and 35000 miles. I never had an issue with grip, I mostly commute, rain included. I have spent a few days riding twisties in the mountains too with more traction in the tire than my courage can muster up to use.

I get great mileage, 15000 miles from a rear tire and just replaced the front last summer at 25k miles.

I just bought a rear today from American Motorcycle Tire
www.americanmototire.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=33_96_97 best prices I've found.

For $50 and $12 shipping it can't be beat.

It looks like this will be the last year on Cheng-Shin tho...:(

Same story here. I have run probably 12 or more of them over the years after my factory tires wore out. They have decent tread wear and traction. I have a HI-Max on the rear right now.

I'm running Barracuda's on my cafe racer and love them. Good grip, I rail the bike, push it way past where I should, and these tires have never disappointed me. From the sounds of it though we're out of luck to get them anymore since they quit exporting street tires to the US...

all this talk about tires gets me thinking.
for all of you that don't know, i am a tech ( not tire buster ) at goodyear.
now i know bike and car tires are totally different but i have never bought a set of goodyear tires.
imo, just because you spend top dollar does not always mean you get the best.
on my 650, i have the kenda challenger tires.
i run them through rain and they seem to hold the road well.
i have contiental's on the 1100 right now and there junk imo. ( they came on it when i bought it )
i have seen people spend $800 on a set of triple tread goodyears that are the same size as my car and they just melt off in 20-25k.
there is just no profit in a tire that holds the road and last awhile.
you would never need new ones.

get this! they are talking about putting an experation date on passenger tires now and if overdue, you car will fail an inspection.
i could go on and on about cost vs quality of tire but it's up to the consumer in the end.
someday i will be able to afford my kz habit.

beleive it or not when i first started drag racing i didn't have a welded crank so i ran street tires at that time every body used pirreli phantoms that were half worn out i didn't have much money so i bought kenda challengers instead i have never found a tire that got so sticky when hot as that they hooked like crazy. i would not hesitate to run them on a street tired drag bike again but the sidewalls flex so much that they are scary going around corners so now i use bt-45 bridgestones.
