Oh and BTW, I put my swingarm on with a 190 rear tire and a 5/8 offset without modifying the frame. The picture in my avitar is an old pic. I have since put a zx7 front end on with matching wheels.

I'm sure I've already posted this before somewhere inthe archives, but here goes.
First thing to do is open your wallet and don't be to concerned with price cause it's gonna cost.
Custom 4-6 over swingarm made to mount directly to the KZ frame.
Struts. I didn't trust shocks. They might cause rear end to bottom out on rear tire.
Front and rear alum rims.
New bearings for rims to accept KZ axles.
New tires.
5/8 offset front sprocket, new rear sprocket, new extended chain. All 530 pitch.
Custom made spacers to align rear tire.
Complete ZX7 rear brake system.
Shorten kickstand.
Complete ZX7 front end.
Modified front sprocket cover to accept 5/8 offset sprocket.
Many hours of labor, too many to count.
I think thats it but I'm sure I've missed something.

I dont care to open my wallet, I just see no reason to modify the frame. I was looking to just get into about a 6-7" tire without extending the the swingarm. I guess I will be better off just going at it on my own. Thanks for the info.

Anything can be done. It may look a little boxy modifying a stock length swingarm to suddenly be wide enough for a 200 tire.
Give a go and post your results, findings and pictures to the group.

hang tight ...someone on here has most likely been down the same path and will chime in....if you do get a answer and can achieve your goal with out a frame mod/or much...you can have a stock arm and set up to switch back and forth...now would'nt that be special....

My frame is not hacked up and I can go back to stock at anytime but it isn't just a simple swingarm swap as I thought it would be. Modifying a motorcycle is very addictive once I started it was hard to stop. So now eventhough I can go back I know I won't.
I just purchased another 1976 KZ900 to keep original.

The only mod on my 1000 frame is I had to grind some thickness away from the brake pedal mount, but it's really thick to begin with so no biggie.
Also max rim width without hacking into the frame is 6 inches.

i was able to stuff a 200mm tire under my z1r with no chassis mods.i custom built my own swingarm and had to extend it +2 to keep from hacking the frame.without a custom swinger i think you are going to have to do some clearanceing.you can see pictures of my bike in the 200mm tire/swingarm thread,as well as the complete build in "my z1r and 900 projects" page.post pics and don't hesitate to ask questions.we are all here to help and support these old bikes and the folks who love em.
