Ok, I just checked the S/N on the frame of my 1982 KZ 650CSR to try and determine weather it is an H1 or an H2, it was produced in January 1982 according to the frame but it is the serial that is confusing me.

The standard JKAKZEH1 is present but the next half of it is not listed in the CSR H models, it reads "XCA016319"

This site lists only these serials for 1980 CSRs

"H1 Frame KZ650DE033101"
"H2 Frame KZ650DE046701"
"H3 Frame KZ650DE051401"

Any ideas about what the deal is with my S/N?

Yeah, its an H2 (1982) model. The info posted is in error and refers to engine numbers, not frame numbers. The site has the info reversed. Frame numbers started at JKAKZEH1CA012601 (with the 8th digit being variable?) for the H2 model. So yours is about 3600 units into that years production.

Ah, phew.

Well, the H2s seem pretty nice so far, 32mm CV carbs, dual adjustable rear suspension, drilled disc, electronic ignition, and spokes.

I am a happy camper.

However, if that is the S/N I took from where the forks meet the frame, where is the frames S/N stamped on a 650??
