Some more info, probably non essential. I looked at a 1979 KZ650SR rear wheel and it does say TL after the wheel size just like mentioned. According to Kawasaki this is a tube type wheel though. I then looked at a KZ550 rear wheel from 1981. It says "tubeless" right on the wheel, and is tubeless according to Kawasaki parts. So I think the TL may not mean tubeless at all, because if that denoted tubeless, why would they say tubeless in plain english instead in later years?

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
