This is my first post,I Have always wanted a Kz but could never find one. I have hade many bikes, Cb 750,Bussa,Fz1 to name a few. Well i bought two Kz's this weekend both 1000 and one is a 79 and the other is a 81. My question is there any difference in the frames other than under the tank on the 81 it has extra bars welded there. I'm going to build a drag bike and wanted the best frame. Also is there any difference in the motors. I will have alot of parts left over as im going to strip them and use only the parts it takes to go down the strip. Any info would be helpfull as i know this is the place to find anything on these BAD BIKES!!!

you asked some questions that take about two years to answer...so i'll steer you towards some write ups on both and a bunch of specs and articles...scroll across the top green bar of the kzrider home page to where it says kz information....and put your pointer on kz information....four different windows will appear...filebase ,,,articles ect...you will find thrity plus years of info in there...use your model # and years...good luck.....don't chop up an 81 1000j standard or a 79 mkII "if" those are what you have....someone will trade you an allready made drag bike straight accross i bet...and cash.....post some pictures of the bikes you picked up and let us drool...peace

If the 79 is an A model it would be better to leave it alone and restore it. If it is an ltd cut to your hearts desire. The A models are becoming scarce and fetching a pretty penny.

Trianglelaguna-Thanks for the info,
Donthekawguy- I just went and looked the numbers on the frames. One is 12-80 and JKAKZCJ1-1BA003455 and also has KZTOOJ. One is 11-78 and KZT00B-516309.

It looks like you have a 1981 KZ1000J but with an older pre 1981 engine by your other posts, and a 1979 KZ1000 LTD.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Thanks for your info RON! I know the bikes look alot different/ Tanks-seat and clusters. I like the way the LTD looks i will prob build a drag bike out of that one unless i can find a frame already done.
