I'd check the local hardware store. Our Ace store has a whole row of bolts, nuts, etc. Including some chromed acorn style nuts that are metric. I believe they are 6mm coarse (I think that means a 6mm x 1mm threads but don't quote me).

Or Mcmaster has something close for about 1.88 each. Again, you'll need to verify the thread size and pitch, but I found this item 91982A250 on McMaster.com and it looks close.

It's a 8mm bolt 16mm long if that helps. Should be at a decent hardware store.

Some of the Ace hardware stores carry metric SS, put a little anti-seize on the bolts for corrosion protection and easy removal in the future.

I thought the heads were "shorter" that a standard bolt, clearance issue,,, I may be wrong, though

They change part # at least once. Same bolt used to hold the horn to the frame on KZ650s,900,1000, grab rail bolt on a KZ650, bottom headlight bolt on a KZ650SR ect. Standard bolt. The changed the name from a "hex bolt" to an "upset bolt" whatever that may mean. I guess upset bolt means you're "upset" when it's lost :)

Should be a 8x1.25 thread and I guess it's 16mm long. Most stores carry even lengths like 15 or 20 mm.
