and all I could find was distressing info about how a lower more relaxed rpm highway cruising speed wouldn't increase highest attainable top speed, but might well lower it, and definitely take a lot more time getting there.I was looking around tonight for a new avatar....
But on the bright side, the s-l-u-g-g-i-s-h new acceleration won't cause anymore soiled undies (unless trying to hurriedly pass a semi without a couple of downshifts).
Good Luck!

I was looking around tonight for a new rear sprocket and all I could find was 40-41 and 42 tooth. I'm thinking maybe a 15/31 set up or maybe even 16/32 (liberal speed limits in Montana). :woohoo:
What size pitch do you need? I can see what I can find. Also if you have to can you go with a 17t front if available?

I'm going with 630. Won't I have to grind some clearance with a 17 tooth?donthekawguy wrote:

I bought a rear sprocket from Rebel Gears. www.rebelgears.com
My 650 originally had a 13 / 33 gearing with 630 chain. I changed the rear to 26, keeping the 13 up front. The 2:1 ratio works well on the highway. The 650 starts to load up a little above 85 MPH or perhaps 75 if there is a strong headwind. With a 130/90-16 tire, it runs about 79 MPH at 5,000 RPM.
With its greater torque, your 1000 should have no trouble at all. Good luck.

Might enjoy not searching for an imaginary 6th gear.
