motor mount trick? was created by freebyrd24
Hey everyone. I'm working on my long term 81 kz1000 k1 and ran into a bit of a snag. i'm going to start a project forum later, but just a quick question now.

the bottom mount on the front of the motor is giving me a problem. it just wont come out! the other 2 bolts came right out without issue, but this bottom front one wont. is there a secret to this? How is it set up? It looks like there are rubber bushings maybe on the inside of the holes that the bolt goes through. any ideas? thank you!

i,d say your right re rubbers ,your,ll prob find that grunge and rust has seized the bolt to the rubbers ,you,ll need a small drift punch and some wd40 spray to break that seal
good luck

OR-
the bolt may be seriously corroded to the metal tube inside the rubber insulator. I ended up using copious amounts of penetrating oil (penetrates better and leaves less sticky residue than WD40), a small torch to heat the bolt a bit, and a BFH (aka Harley tool). Keep in mind that the energy applied to the stuck bolt is being transferred to nearly 30-year-old cast aluminum. Caution, patience and persistence are the most importatnt tools.

i have been giving this thing a lot of force and let the part soak overnight. it is seriously stuck. this is a huge pain. the bolt spins with a little force, the nut came off of the bolt, but its just stuck. i'll try to add some heat and just keep at it. i have a couple hours already into the bolt, its very frustrating.

I've used a spray on product called "Kroil" that gets under rust and should work well for you in this situation.

Well I finally got that stubborn bolt out! i ended up catching the rubber on fire that was over the bolt, then when I put it out, i peeled it out of the way and was able to get parts blaster on it and it finally gave way. what a PITA!!
