advice on track day 1000j was created by trianglelaguna
i am building a 80s type track day kz from a project i just bought(see sad story on engine forum,,"manual")My questions for the different forums will be about a track bike.
So what would be cool is if anyone who has built one of this year "81jmodel standard kz1000 " for a track/race bike could give me any tips they accumulated and resources they found that knew j bikes.
Also i guess i now would wanna get some deals on trick roadrace upgrades for j-models,
I have a 76kz900 smoothbores/supertrapp/rearsets/ferodos/damper/konis/bars/..on and on..that i can fly on and have forced to corner fairly well often..yet i grew up watching Eddie Lawson and Rob Muzzy and seeing their development with team kawasaki evolve to the j bike and this frame( the j) is way better than my kz9..
so any links-advice-parts would be awsome...i live five minutes from laguna seca and will do track days there... i think that track will remember the sound of a zbike....peace craig sualcreated@yahoo.com

funny you should be building a 1000j i'm in the planning stages of one my self i just bought a 1075 street kit and have an extra gpz head early model [82] that i have done a fair bit of porting to also i have a really nice set of 33 mikuni smoothbores already to go i'm running a set of .410 lift cams so i don't have to go shim under bucketi'm using a complete dyna ignition with two step because i plan on running it in the street class at our local track when i break some thing on my big bike or when i need to get my heart pumping again i'm on the look out for a late model conventional front late 80's or early 90's gsxr would do fine.i already have a late 80's Zx7 swingarm that has been converted to twin shock im looking for a set of progressive or zrx1100 or 12 shocks. so lets have a race and see who finishes first. what are you planning on doing to yours.

i think i'm gonna leave the engine stock as long as i can get it to run.it has been in a garrage for 8 or 9 years.i want to strip the bike and run a total loss electric with the only controls being a tach, clutch, and brake, i also want to put some stiff fork springs and a better shock combo on,i could put a z-1 together from a pile of parts by memory.but i've never worked on these next gen kzs.
i'm gonna take the left side alt cover and mag off the motor ,lose the starter, and get a cap for the crank tip or trim it.I am not in a hurry as i'm slow on carpenter work and bucks ,but come spring i would like to get er to run...I also saw a wierd spanner type nut combo on the front sprocket in stead of the nut on my kz what gives? The motor will probably be fine...i will build it up if not peace

T, easy rec. work w/ what you have... Get tires, brakes, suspension working as best they will.. shed weight, but not to the expense of not being able to re-fit. get quality gear... ride, learn and have fun. Your' ability and the bike will show where to throw your' money. I envy you access to L.S. tho I had Riverside, Ontario and Willow Springs. wish you luck and hope you have at least a portion of the fun I've had road racing.G
