Rearsets and Kickstarter? was created by bkitchen
Has anyone made or bought rearsets where you can still use the kickstarter on a KZ650? I've been thinking of fabbing some but don't want them as far back as the passenger pegs are. Just too far a reach for me. Any ideas?

Ron has had his '79 650s footpegs mounted on the reverse side which brings the back about 3~4 inches. The actual pegs may have to be removed, with the pin, and mounted onto the other mount, then reversed onto the other side facing backwards. To use the kickstarter, you just need to remember to fold up the footpeg. I'm trying to do something similar, but my '78 being an older model and only having one mounting bolt compared to the '79 and later two bolt mounting, does not work out as easily.

Actually it's a full 6 inches! And 1 inch higher, too. The kick start worked if you folded the peg back, but it did hit the brake lever some. I finally just took it off. No regrets yet. Now with my new seat, I use the passenger pegs alot. It's nice to have both positions as options. I even ride with the right foot on the passenger peg, and the left on frward for shifting around town sometimes. I'm not sure the flipping around thing works on models other than the SR, at least and still using the kick start. Did it work on yours, Rob?

For some reason, I don't have a right side pic...I'll get one in a while.

It did work on mine, but I don't get a much rear movement of the pegs as yours. I did not change my shifter or brake pedal when I did my test rides, so it was a bit of a reach to the shifter. I had to pay close attention to shifting, putting my heel on the peg and using my toes. Over the winter I'm either going to shorten up my shift and brake levers or find/make some other linked levers.

The pic below shows the amount of movement I get on the shifter side. The brake side is less.

Here's the right side pic...
You an see that the original position is just under the brake pedal, due to the two bolt mounting and the length of the arm on the peg to the lower (upper now) mounting bolt. I'm not sure why the big difference..seems like the sr model has alot of that. Also, note the short distance to the passenger peg...causes me to step on passenger toes..ouch! Also, note my epoxy brake light switch repair...Shouldn't have to do that again1

I'm seriously considering that, especially if I put on the clubman bars. Thanks for the close-ups. Saved me some work B).
