Lowering 81 kz 550 was created by ATK305
Hello, My wife has the 550 it's to tall for her. Does anyone have suggestions on lowering or selling 12" shocks thats compatible to replace the stock ones I believe they measure 14" eye to eye. Thanks Matt

progressive suspension they are a bit expensive but if you tell the weight of the person they will put the right spring on the shock to match.

Caution -- unsolicited advice ahead

Just in case it's not already being considered, would assure sufficient rear tire clearance when shorter shocks are compressed to avoid contact and ripping out the under-fender wiring.

And maybe ask Santa for a pair of women's high-heel riding boots.

Here's an ebay listing for a 13" pair

ebay

13" shocks on ebay

Z1E carries various Progressive shocks and springs of different sizes, also showing the compressed lengths.

But at Z1E I noticed only the 13.5" fitment for KZ550, and the shorter lengths did not specify KZ550, so thinking this is even more reason for additional inquiry as to whether anything shorter might not afford adequate clearance.

Z1E's 13.5" shocks

For other Z1E shocks, may type "shocks" in Z1E's search box.

Another possible lowering option is to remove some of the seat foam. A hacksaw file or bread knife easily carves foam.

Good Luck! :)

Edit -- the ebay link failed, so just visit ebay motors and search KZ500 shocks under parts and accessories.
