Upside down superbike bars on '78 kz650

Ok, I want to get some lower bars for a sportier riding position similar to clip-ons but not quite as low. Would superbike bars fit inverted (clubman style) on a '78 kz650? The mounting flat in the middle is 4" across on the bars. The clubmans are 4.8" so I am hoping that 4" is enough. Would anyone care to measure how far across the tripletree area is where the bars attach? I'm across the state from my bike for a couple weeks, but want to order parts now. I am considering just putting drag bars on, but would like some drop and superbike bars upside-down look about perfect.
(...also,I'd rather not do clubmans...

that's a good question man...I am interested in what you find out.

I currently have clubmans on my kz 650, and they are simmlar to the clip-ons on my buddy's 03 suzuki gsxr 600. I had drag bars on it before, i liked them more than the clubmans. I think superbike bars flipped upside down would be perfect. But thats just my .02 cents.

Would anyone care to measure how far across the tripletree area is where the bars attach?

The mounts need 5 inches of bar to fit.
