i don't want use another bikes name in vain so i'll just say h-d their rear wheels are 40 spoke and they do not have a cush drive and the newer versions have ball bearings now instead of tapered and you should be able to get them cheap as take offs at any h-d dealer all these yuppies have to change out wheels now days its a law or something.

they should hold up pretty good i've built a few bikes for guy's that were pretty hard riders 125+ft. of tourqe and they never seemed to have much problem other than the usaul spokes loosening up i'd use some of those 8 gauge stainless spokes from bucanons wheels out in cali. what rim are you going to use .

On my Honda, I laced up a front hub to an 18 inch hoop and converted it to rear use by making a sprocket adaptor and changing the brake to disc.I made "collars" to strengthen the junction between the sprocket adaptor and hub.A bearing was also added in the sprocket adaptor (the wheel has 3 bearings now) I deleted the cush drive (it had Shelby mags on it before that also deleted the cush drive). It's been like this for close to 2 years and I have had no problems (other than my paranoid checking of the spokes more than needed).
A H-D wheel would probably be the easier route, though.

It was a little on the heavy side. Since the pics were taken I have cut some weight off it.
The later CB 750 SOHC (F model) did come with a spoke disc brake rear wheel, but they used the old heavy thick brake disc and part of my doing this was to convert the brakes to a new lighter braking system(disc and caliper). My set up is still alot lighter than the complete stock CB 750 F Disc brake wheel.
Having a hub made would probably be a little on the expensive side. When I bought the 2 round chunks of aluminum (off Ebay-pictured) a while ago, it think it was close to $50 and aluminum has gone up in price since then. After you get the aluminum stock, you then you have to figure in the shop time (it usually isn't cheap) to machine it (machining the chunk of aluminum down to a usable size, boring for bearings recesses on a lathe, it will then need to have 20 holes bored and countersunk (milling machine) on each side for the spokes, along with sprocket and disc mounting holes.) Thats a bunch of hours and a couple of seperate milling processes and total cost adds up quickly.
I think a company called "Barnes" made hubs. I have seen a few of them, mostly for Yamaha XS 650's.

the barnes hub was built for mostly flat trackers. they were built for light weight i don't think they could stand up to the tourque and horsepower that your beast is going to make and if your bike ever hooked think about the stresses it would have to handle.
