I'm building a vintage drag bike out of my 1975 KZ400. Does anyone know where to get a 4"x18" drag slick? I see Mickey Thompson has a 5.5, but I am using the stock rims so the tire might be a little to wide.

I used to go to the drags a lot and I always used old road racing slicks. If you can find a racer around you can get them cheep and the centers are usually have nice tread still. The road racers normally where out the sides. The bike is a more rideable with the road racing slick too, those square edges on a drag slick can be a little tricky to ride with. You will get all the traction you need with a road racing slick too.

I don't think anyone makes them that skinny. A 5.5 will work.

i used to run a 5.5 on my stock wheel on my 78 kz1000 the only thing bad about it was the center of the tire wore out quicker than the sides. it should mount up no problem you just can't go by the wear indicators any more i used to get around 75 passes before i would switch it out. you probablly wont burn the tire quite so hard as i did with the 1000. so as they say mileage may vary. sounds you might have some fun with it. any idea what it might run for times.

The guy I bought it from ran it bone stock on a quarter mile 15.3 seconds. I have stripped on the bike down, stretched the swing arm 6", adding some struts and am about to port and polish the head. I've never ran a bike on a strip before so I don't really know.I will probably be running an eighth mile.
