swing arm bush/bearing
23 Sep 2008 01:26
have a 77 Z650C1. have side to side movement in the swingarm so am going to order some bushings/bearings. what i need to know is has it got bushings or bearings? dont want to have to strip it to find out as its my daily ride and down time is not a option.
looked in two differant manuals and online at parts shops and cant work out when they changed to bearings.
cheers rob

Yes the 77 uses those bushings. I'm not sure if you're the same member that asked this a week or so ago, but just in case you don't know, there's a center grooved tube running in those bushings. The grooves run up to the zerk fitting. Kawasaki idea was grease in the zerk would flow down the grooves in the tube and lube the bushings. This did not work because the grease would harden and clog the grooves. No lube meant the tube would begin to rust and wear the bushings. When you replace the bushings you're going to need to either replace the tube or do a lot of work with emory cloth smoothing out the rust on the tube, because the old rusty tube will not slide into the new bushings.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
