What year KZ650?

Hey guys im new here and am looking at getting a KZ650 as a first bike, but I need some help figuring out what year the bike im looking at is. Can anyone tell from this pic what year and model KZ this is? Thanks guys

Is that bike in Canada??
If not, then it's been modified and you'll need to ask the current owner what parts he used off what bikes.

Look behind the headlight at the sticker and see what the date of manufacture is.

That bike is an 82 CSR 650. The CV carbs and lack of mag wheels narrows it down. It also looks to have a MAC header installed. The 81 CSR650 has VM24 slide type carbs and the 83 650CSR came with mag wheels so based on what I see I'd say that is an 82.

Wheels are interchangeable between 77-80 and 81-83, but usually not between the two groups.

Lot's of things changed on the KZ's starting in 81-82, notice that one doesn't have a kickstarter while 77-80 does? The motor in that bike has more in common with the 750 fours than it does with the pre 81 650's.

Lack of emission crap on the cam covers gave it away as a Canadian model.

Also, according to kawasaki.com, the 1882 CSR650 came from the factory with single front disk brake and drum rear brake (as shown in the photo).

What years have different tanks? The tank on the one im looking at seems to be a little different then the late 70's models. Also What years have the mag wheels, and what years have the spoked wheels? Sorry for all the questions but I like knwoing what im getting into too.

The 81 and 82 CSR 650's had spoke wheels and the 83's which was the last year for the 650's in the US used mags. A set of mags from a 550 LTD is a direct bolt on swap if you want to get rid of the spokes. I did that swap on my 81 CSR. The fuel tanks for all the 650 CSR's are the same as are the tanks from a 750 LTD made from 80 to 83. And you are correct the fuel tanks from the late 70's 650's are totally different from what you now have.
