Aftermarket Master Cylinder - Not big enough? was created by supercharged
When going through a new purchase of mine - 80 1000 LTD, I noticed the brake fluid looked like tar, so while changing the rubber, I added new pads and started to change the fluid and found the master cylinder boot was stretched open worn thin on the edges, since it was missing the gasket between the lid and the boot.

Since I have a hydrolic clutch that used a universal master to run that, I thought I would buy a matching master for the brakes and solve my problems...

Upon assembly and the dreaded bleeding of the front brakes, I find myself with no apparent air left in the system and a brake lever that has resistance, but can still be pulled all the way to the bars.:S

After over a pint of fluid through the system - 1st with vacuum, then with standard pumping... I thought I would get an opinion.

Is it possible that the new master won't produce enough pressure? Or do I continue to bleed...

This is a link to the part

Any ideas?

you may want to do a search here for more info but it seems one of the best ways to get those last few air bubbles out is to wire tie your brake lever to the bars and let it sit overnight...steve

Well, it lists a 13mm piston. If memory serves most Kawi's have a 1/2 inch piston with single disc front brakes and 5/8 inch with dual discs. 13mm is 0.512 inch so I figure that its close enough to be just fine. More than likely there's a bubble trapped somewhere.

Mike,I had to hang my calipers(from string) at a different angle to get the remaining air bubbles out.
It worked great.B)

Put a piece of wood in between each set of pads to keep them from collapsing.;)

Well the master may be a bit small, but since these are single piston calipers... I go for it.

I did tie the lever to the bars overnight and that seems to work. I have about 50% of movement now.

Rode the bike and they worked... and worked good.

Thanks for the suggestions.
