new guy needs help really bad lol

hello all i recently joined this site since i bought 2 non running bikes from a guy here locally...

i do need help with the triple trees i have one frame that i took them off of just to clean them up and get them back on and now i cant get them high enough it seems to get the top nut onto the threads so i can put the top of the trees back

here are the details this frame as does the other that i have as an extra parts bike has balls as bearings is this correct? i looked on the net for new ones and they only show bearings in once piece almost like needle type of bearings this one has just round balls that fell out when i took it apart on the top and bottom of the neck....

but here is the odd thing once i took a look at the other parts bike to see what i was doing wrong i noticed that this neck has collars that seem either pressed in or part of the neck in which bearing retainers seem to be pressed into


the one i took apart doesnt have that

its just like a straight piece of pipe no collars on the ends at all it has a retainer it seems pressed into it on the top and bottom but not the typical bulge on either end of the neck like i see in pictures

so how am i supposed to get them back in since it seems that i cant put them in enough to get the top bolt back on
i cant push them in anymore and i only have about an 1/8" from the bottom of the neck to the top of the bottom trees

help please lol all i need is like a 1/8"

it was all fine when i took it apart dont know why it will not go back together

are the needle type bearings just a new upgrade? did they come with a bunch of balls on the top and bottom for bearings and if so does anyone out there know how many balls its supposed to have on either end?

they both are stamped with Z1 at the begining of the vin on the frame necks

ill post pics if i have to so you guys know the differences on the necks im talking about

A pic. is worth a thousand words on this one.
Roller bearing are much better then the old ball and race
type. If you have the stem it apart I would change to
the rollers.
As for the head with no (bulge) for the race. NEED PIC.
Someone must have welded in a new head.
They will do that to rake a frame some times. The tube
has a thicker wall. So they turn/cut the wall of the tube and press the bearing in. (Thicker walled tube then the
stock tube.) They will also do this to change the frame
numbers to a legal title.

If you are having trouble with the stock ball and race
not coming far enough to get the nut on, you have
one ball on top of another. Very easy to do. They are a
pain in the a--.
You have to cover the rase with grease,stick the balls
in the grease, then slide it all together with out
moving any of your balls.

ok here are some pics the first two are the ones that im trying to put back on and the other two are of the other neck that i used for reference when i began to have problems
the first neck seems to be thicker over all then the one that has the caps on the top and bottom but both are the same length

so i got the pics in the wrong order when i was resizing them but you can tell from numbers 3 and 4 the one that im having problems with the neck is thicker and stays that way till the very ends and the pics 1 and 2 the neck is thinner and bulges out on the ends to fit the bearings

now they are both the same sizes at the ends where the bearings go

they both have the same kind of bearings and both are stamped with z1f at the begining of the vin

and the one that stays the same size from top to bottom im having trouble with getting enough threads to come out the top to get the nut back on

This is a little tricky.
The stem tube with no bell is some kind of
replacement. I have never seen a stock tube
with out bells on the ends. Im sure someone
will correct me if im wrong.
I doubt that the ball and race bearing will fit
the tube with out the bells on the ends.
From the looks of the race it the stock tube, it's
in very bad shape (NO NOT USE IT)
Are you trying to put the ball and race in the tube with no bells on the end?
When you had the stem out of the no bell tube
was there a stop for the race to seat on?
Is the race on the stem all the down to bottom
fork brace?

the neck without the bells at the end did have ball bearing balls inside they fell out when i took it apart thats what is making me go crazy since it was together and worked just fine leave it to me to f it up...

on the top and bottom on that neck there seem to be like retaining collars pressed in that dont let the balls go further in.

the one with the bad collar is the bike i took apart after i had trouble getting that one back together

like i said they both have vins starting with z1f and both have identical size type of letters and numbers even the spacing is the same thats why its almost impossible for me to think its not a kz neck with a diff stamp the title matches it to the t and states its a 76

is there a vendor that is great for these bikes i have a ton of extra stuff for these bikes,

seats
lights
what looks like police saddle bags
wheels
a whole frame
gas tank
3 sets of pipes
3 duck tail pieces for the back of the bike
1 set of side covers
all kinds of other things

id love to find out how much this stuff is going for and sell/ trade a good vendor for things ill need to get it up and running
