Driver Foot Rest Question

I have two sets of 1976 KZ900 driver's foot rest. One is pipe and welded, the other is forged and much stonger. They look similar and are completely interchangable. Kawasaki did not change part numbers, so there was simply a "running change" made in line with safety and improved design.

Does anyone know the history or when they made the change? I am asking because I want stock, but I also would like to use what I think is ok for 1976 and the better, forged design.

I own a 1974 900 Z1, and owned 1976 900 LTD's, 1977 1000 LTD's, and have several Kawasaki project bikes and just can't remember seeing something like that :huh: At least not what I'm picturing..
