Speedo Reset knob? was created by SPARKY47
Hi Guys, does anyone know how to get the odometer[?] reset knob off? I've tried gently:) ,then a bit less gently to pull the thing off but it's not moving. I need to get it off to clean up and repray,[done the tacho].
I can't see any screw on it and I can't get the outer casing off with it in place.
Any suggestions welcome.;)
Now I know the moderators are going to have fits, but I don't know how to post multiple images:unsure:
Sooooo....multiple posts.:woohoo:

Hi, Sparky!
No need to start a whole new topic to post another image.
It's okay to just post another image in a reply to your own post within the same topic. Just click on "Reply" and post another pic. Okay to do this repeatedly and get all your pics within the same topic.

Good Luck with the pic postings, and with the "knob!" :)

Have you tried unscrewing it? That's usually how small knobs (lamps for example) are installed unless Mother Kaw decided to just press or glue it on! ;)

Hi Bluemeanie, when its turned anticlockwise the count advances to 1111, 2222, etc. When I turn it clockwise I can hear a regular[once per rev] "clicking" and feel a load momentarily come one until it passes the click.
Short of cutting it off very carefully with a dremel wheel I'm out of ideas, problem with that is finding and fitting another one...

I'm not 100% sure,BUT...I think you might have to split the speedo(take it apart),and with a small set of needle-nose pliers, get a grab on the threaded shaft that the "Knob" is threaded onto.

Maybe take a look and see if you can see the shaft on the outside of the cover??

Can you wedge something in there(precision screw-driver) to make contact with the shaft, from the outside?

I am assuming you want to replace the rubber boot? If you're splitting the case to take them out of their housing you don't need to remove. If you MUST remove the knob you must actually break it off. The knob assembly is pressed onto the shaft of the trip meter. You don't want to disassemble this unless you don't want it to work any more. To get the knob off you must hold the black plastic shaft frirly and twist the knob. It will "break" off. The shaft is tapered and you can easily super glue or epoxy it back on. See pics for more detail.

Now to get the outer case off you do know you have to remove the chrome ring without screwing it up right?
