KZ650 Frame Bracing?? was created by cherrymetal
I'm after some advice in bracing up my frame in preparation for the more powerful GPz750 engine I'm going to fit (which will probably get taken out to 810 in the future).

With the modern running gear I have for it and the powerful engine, the frame will then be the weakest link.

I'm thinking of gusseting around the headstock, to replace the thin material that currently does that job, with 1/4 plate, is that the right thing to do?

Also a brace across the tubing that joins the cradle to the subframe.

And also a brace across the subframe itself, roughly across where the shock mounts - cos I reckon with hard cornering, with a twin shock set up there could be a tendency to try to twist the subframe??

Any advice (with pics if possible!) would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

1/4" plate is going to be way overkill and way heavy. I used something 3/32" thick plate or 3/4" x.065" tube for the gusseting on my project . Of course my bracing will be a little different due to the mono-shock but near the headstock and back bones it should all be the same. Do a search on here for frame bracing and you should get some decent results. You might not see many 650's braced but the basic theories apply.

Find the site that sells the kit and just copy the kit they have. I did it for around $30.

A few days ago I found some links to a Japanese site, where I found this PDF

Unfortunately I can't read or speak Japanese, but the pics in this PDF show a very nice way to brace a Kawasaki frame.

Also check this out. There are some nice pics on there...
