Where can I find a Front Master Cylinder Boot?
19 Aug 2008 20:28
I have a 1980 KZ1000 with the triaglular looking master cylinder resevior. The boot is stretched out pretty bad and was needing to find a new one. You can barely fit it back in the resevoir let alone any fluid. Any suggestions?

Are you referring to #5 in the attached pic?
Also,Rhino...put your bikes'"Model" in with your signature.
(A4,B4,C3,etc.)
It will make a difference in some cases.

OK,just to be sure.(I figured that's what you were talking about)
You can check with Jeff at,
www.z1enterprises.com/
I'm not sure if they're available there or not,but give him a call and ask.
If he doesn't have anything,he might be able to steer you in another direction.

You probably know, but just in case, the diaphram is retractable. Simply squeeze back to original shape after it's stretched. The way it works is fluid is drawn from the master cylinder after brakes begin to wear and space has to be taken up by something, so the diaphram stretches downward to take up the space as air is allowed on top of the diaphram. This way the system is sealed from the elements yet can still allow brake fluid level change. The diaphram will never revert to original shape without aid. Like I say, you may know this, but I've never seen a diaphram that wont accordian right back to recessed.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Yes, I know they are retractable it is just that this one is so old and weathered or what no that it will no go back to original form. Thanks
