Flipping the forks on a 74 z1 900 was created by oldkaws4ever
Ok guy's, i wanna flip the forks on my z1, so the calliper sits behind the fork opposed to the front like it is now. How do i go about doing this? Im guessing i just take the forks off and put the left one on the right, and put the right one on the left right? I also heard that it helps with the braking also when the calliper sits behind the fork, is this true?

That's how it would be done, swap the legs, then your mounting points for the calipers will now be swapped to the rear. Of course if you have just a single front caliper, the caliper will have to be mounted on the opposite fork leg from where it was and the brake lines will no longer line up. You won't notice any difference in braking or anything else. The difference will not be enough to notice. I would leave alone.

There are different opinions on the effectiveness (i think it works) of flipping them but yes, all you have to do is switch the sides the forks go in. You might have to replumb the brake lines a bit tho

I have MANY articles on this from the 70's and 80's. All of them say to do it.
Most of the reason being it transfers weight to behind the forks centerline. Thus helping the ride, braking, and handling.
I do have to add that they all had dual caliper setups in the articles too.. So that would double the weight up front;)

Like I said, I have the articles and I understand the reasoning behind it, I just can't explain it clearly without re-reading the info.
Jeff @ Z1 and I talked about it too, and IF I remember correctly he said it did help .

I for one, like the old school look of the caliper in front of the fork.
I'm sure others will jump in on this..

Putting the caliper behind the fork will help steering, because of the better weight distribution. But, be careful: the brake pads need to face the right way! Check your manual for this.
